April Reading: Featuring UNR's MFA program

  • Coffeebar 10120 Jibboom Street Truckee, CA, 96161 United States (map)

Join us to hear the work of emerging writers enrolled in the University of Nevada, Reno's new MFA program! Readers will include:

Matt Baker is a recent Reno transplant and member of the inaugural MFA class at the University of Nevada, Reno, and he already has a poem forthcoming in The Meadow. While not writing poetry, teaching first-year writing, or attending every extracurricular event in the English department, he drinks too much coffee but surprisingly goes to bed at reasonable times. Though originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Matt feels quite at home in the west and can’t wait to have more time to explore the area surrounding Reno.

Nate Perry is an MFA student at University of Nevada, Reno. He hails from South Texas and his writing is mostly centered around the Gulf Coast. He shares a living space with a very large, very smelly Newfoundland dog named Boatswain. His favorite sporting events are: the Masters, the first day of the NCAA tournament (Thursday, not the play-in games, obviously),the Daytona 500, and the Kentucky Derby. He thinks (hopes) that the Spurs have a good chance to win another NBA title this year before Timmy retires. This is his first reading.

Justin Williams is from Charleston SC. He enjoys sunsets, long walks on the beach, sunrises, short walks on the beach, dusk, long runs on the beach, dawn, short runs on the beach, and ohmygod did he mention sunsets? Loves them.

AnnElise Hatjakes is an MFA student in fiction. She teaches English at UNR and The Davidson Academy of Nevada and coaches a speech and debate team. When she's not teaching, reading, or writing, she can be found catching up on celebrity gossip, running, or taking grammar quizzes (for fun!)

Molly Beckwith is a MFA student in fiction, although she also writes poetry, which has been published in journals like Hayden's Ferry Review Online and Mid-American Review. She moved to Reno from Arkansas with a Beagle Collie named Pepper, and spends her spare time watercolor painting.
